About me
Hi! I’m Carmen, a multidisciplinary designer hailing from Ireland. 🍀
I have over 2 years of professional experience in digital visual design, working across a range of contexts including early-stage startups, accelerators, social enterprises, NGOs, and consultancies. These environments have shaped me into a flexible, collaborative designer, comfortable working across disciplines and translating complex ideas into clear, engaging outputs.
My background began in product and user-centred design, which continues to influence how I approach communication and visual storytelling today. From there, I expanded into branding, UX/UI design, illustration, motion design, and digital content, allowing me to work across platforms and formats. This unconventional path has given me a strong foundation in understanding how people engage with information—whether through products, interfaces, services, or systems.
I am particularly motivated by creating meaningful exchanges around science, data, and complex topics. Whether I’m pitching a product as a product designer, writing a script for a short-form video, or creating social media content, I enjoy shaping narratives that invite understanding, curiosity, and dialogue. I’m interested not just in how something looks, but in how effectively it communicates and connects with its audience.
Much of my work focuses on clarity, accessibility, and human-centred communication, especially when translating technical or research-driven content for broader audiences. I have experience working closely with researchers, analysts, developers, and communications teams to ensure accuracy while crafting content that is engaging, inclusive, and easy to understand.
Across all my projects, I aim to design thoughtful, purposeful experiences that foster connection and inspire positive change. I believe design is a powerful tool for good—and that designers can act as advocates through the products, systems, and communications they help create. With care and intention, I believe we can design our way toward a more meaningful and equitable future.
Work experience
ACLED • Multimedia Officer
(November 2024 – Present)
As a Multimedia Officer at ACLED since 2024, I translate complex conflict data into high-impact visual narratives. My role sits at the intersection of graphic design, data visualization, and digital strategy, where I produce everything from real-time infographics and motion graphics to full-scale video productions and podcasts. I work cross-functionally with Research and Analysis teams to ensure brand coherence across all digital touchpoints, maintaining a consistent and professional visual identity that resonates with donors, clients, and the public. From managing ACLED’s digital asset library to designing layouts for rapid-response reports, I focus on turning raw data into accessible, immersive storytelling experiences.
Effector • Junior Web designer
(March 2024 – October 2024)
As a Junior Web Designer at Effector, I specialized in the end-to-end development of WordPress websites, balancing high-end aesthetics with intuitive User Experience (UX). I was responsible for the full design lifecycle, from facilitating client discovery sessions to implementing advanced responsive architecture that ensured seamless performance across all devices. My role was highly collaborative; I worked directly with stakeholders to translate complex branding guidelines into cohesive digital concepts, while simultaneously partnering with internal teams to align web projects with broader marketing strategies. By conducting rigorous QA testing and performance optimization, I consistently delivered high-speed, accessible, and trend-forward digital solutions.
Cambridge Consultants • MedTech Industrial Design Intern
(August 2021 – August 2022)
During my year-long MedTech Industrial Design Internship at Cambridge Consultants, I integrated technical industrial design with high-level visualization to support global Medical/Pharmaceutical leaders like AstraZeneca, Takeda and Medtronic. I was responsible for support on project briefs and took part in transitioning rapid analog sketches into high-fidelity renders that brought complex medical and mechanical concepts to life. I took part in client and internal meetings, contributing conceptual design work to project briefs. This experience honed my ability to translate technical specifications into compelling visual and physical narratives while working within the strict precision requirements of the medical technology sector.
