As part of ACLED’s video-first strategy, introduced in mid-2025 to strengthen its digital communications, the ACLED Briefed social video series was launched across ACLED’s primary social media platforms. I supported the development of the series from its inception, designing the initial video template style and shaping the visual branding for ACLED Briefed. The goal was to create a format that was immediately recognizable, adaptable across topics and regions, and optimized for short-form, mobile-first consumption—while maintaining ACLED’s credibility as a leading data and analysis organization. The branding balanced clarity and authority with accessibility. It was designed to foreground the analyst while clearly framing their insights within ACLED’s data-driven perspective. The template system allowed for consistency across episodes while remaining flexible enough to accommodate different regions, themes, and analytical focuses. The ACLED Briefed series consists of both reactive and proactive short-form videos. Reactive content responds to unfolding events and emerging crises, while proactive videos explore longer-term trends, patterns, and risks identified through ACLED’s data science. Each video features ACLED analysts speaking directly about their region of expertise, translating complex datasets into clear, concise insights for a broad global audience. By combining expert voices, rigorous data analysis, and a strong visual identity, the series strengthened ACLED’s ability to deliver timely, authoritative insights in a fast-moving digital environment, reinforcing its commitment to providing clarity in moments of crisis. Working in close partnership with the media relations, editorial, social media and multimedia team in the external affairs department, we reviewed and developed every aspect of the brand - from colour and logo usage to the product application and developing templates and guidelines to ensure easy use of each. With a digital and video first mindset, we tackled motion graphics, font, layout and the iconic ACLED globe, refreshing and reinvigorating the core assets of the ACLED brand.
